SELF PORTRAIT SILHOUETTES

Here's an example of a pictorial history of my 1982 World trip in the form of a garment typically worn during this period.

During COVID lockdown, I spent many hours fixing up my house, making cloth masks for hospitals and neighbours but it was purging my house where I came across these slides. I had almost 2000 slides just sitting there in a box. I started to wonder what would happen to these slides and memories if I should pass during this time... and when I do ultimately pass. I then decided it was time to make something of them and share my experiences.

By making garments, I could express who I was at the time of this trip and highlight memories. While taking off the cardboard edges and trying to keep track of all these slides, I eventually messed up and could not keep track of exactly where they were taken. That was when it hit home that the differences between countries and cultures melted away and our similarities came to light.  There are 6 garments. Each garment is expressing its story through specific placement of each slide like a patchwork. The Hula skirt is actually a version of the mini skirt but take a closer look to see the beautiful scenery not of just the Hawaii leg, but all the oceans, beaches and mountains on this trip.
